An outreach project commissioned by Historic Royal Palaces, Home has been a great success in its second phase at Kew Palace. Look out for a journey at the Tower of London, coming soon!
Home at Kensington Palace: Teenage groups were invited to explore KensingtonPalace as a ‘home’. As groups embarked on a mission looking for a mystery character - Raven - they encountered a series of tasks, each challenging
them to explore what home really means. Learning themes ranged from people to security to emotions. The project consisted of a number of participative workshops, film production and an interactive simulation at Kensington
Palace.
In August 2008 we created the second phase of Home at Kew Palace, where a slightly younger audience of 6 -12 year olds were taken on an interactive adventure. Here, a fictional caretaker took the group on a journey to help
George III before Doctor Willis locked him away.
Through the journey the group undertook a series of interactions, exercises and discoveries using drawing, writing, discussion and observation - each exercise an exploration of what makes a good home. The journey allowed for deeper exploration of the themes around home as well as the rich heritage, decoration and texture within the palace itself.
“Marks out of ten? The way you planned, the filming, your involvement here - it was up there in the 9s or 10s. A very high quality project.”
Steve Hunt (Earl’s Court Youth Club)
“It made me think about other cultures. It made me think about the little kids…. Protection. It made me think about what people need.”
Walid (participant)
